“the 2022 reds from Basis to Ida will be the greatest vintage ever for Enderle & Moll”
The Man Who Drinks More E&M than anyone in America

The Greatest Wine Values – “Hand Over Land”
We all know the phrase “hand over land.” It is generally applied to Burgundy and means that it’s better to have a wine from lesser terroir made by a great producer than a wine from an average producer from great terroir. Alas, in Burgundy, you are seeing entry level wines from great producers costing $100 and up. Such is life.
But, in Germany, you can still buy great entry level wines from great producers at very fair prices. And that is what today’s offer is all about.

Enderle and Moll
Enderle and Moll is the cult winery that every top German collector wants. Their wines are sold for hundreds of dollars in certain top restaurants. They are “top customer only” at some places. Production is incredibly small and it’s almost impossible to get the top bottlings. I’ve only sold the top bottlings to the initial buyers when I first opened. This winery is going to go down in history as one of the first superstar wineries that defined the breakout of German pinot noir.

The 2022 Vintage
2022 is almost the most miraculous vintage I’ve tasted and cements E & M as the Michael Jordan of German Winemakers in that they just killed it. They are nimble, terrific, elegant, deep, powerful, transparent, delicate, suave, lithe and insanely fruity but in a beautiful refined way. Like 2018 with more crunch, power, refinement and depth. Florian says it’s his best ever vintage.

In 2022 the color is darker than usual and a client who buys more Enderle & Moll than anyone on the list was just there and said the 2022 reds from Basis to Ida will be the greatest vintage ever for Enderle & Moll. No doubt these will be world class which will give any Burg a run for the money.

We might only be able to offer the Basis once this year as yields across Baden are so low. Usually we offer twice.

The Wine
Today I am selling 2022 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir “Basis” for $21.99 a bottle and $19.99 a bottle on a case. This is gorgeous and the single best value Pinot Noir I’ve ever sold in the world in my career from anywhere. An absolutely incredible wine from a top, cult producer for a price that normally nets you wretched plonk from a mammoth industrial winemaker.

The nose is incredibly striking off the bat with just a barrage of honey, brown sugar, a hint of sweet herbals, mineral and big red cherries. Loads of spice, resin, pine, clove, early season cherry, sour cherry and showing tremendous complexity. Yes a $20 Pinot can show complexity. Just amazingly pure cherries on the nose after around 24 hours of air with all the spice and resin.

The palate is just fantastic. The 21 has high acid, deep deep fruit (most ever for this wine!) beautiful purity and great to very great length. Very crunchy, very powerful and very mineral. Almost a stoney effect with deep sweet cherry interspersed. Right now showing intensely mineral, but also has the sappy red fruits this bottling is know for once it’s open for 24 hours. Elegant tannin. Wonderful. This is deeper and more structured than the 2022, but when it matures, 3-4 years, it will be the knockback king of all Pinots. Just so bright and juicy and absolutely delicious. A wine that makes you just totally thrilled to be alive. And yes, while it is delicious and bright, it has that Enderle & Moll complexity. The spice. The licorice. Hauntingly lithe and beautiful pure Pinot Noir like only E and M can be. Just so delicate and refined. A wine you can knock back on a Tuesday night, after 2-3 years, or serve at a party or even serve to wine geek friends. One can never enough of as well because of the structure. This will last 5-8 years and peak in 2-3.

I’m doing case pricing here because I buy this direct and got a great deal and I want everyone to be able to have enough that they don’t need to think about it when they open a bottle. Pizza on a Tuesday? Party for 10? Just want a drink after work? This is the best wine for a price you don’t have to think about for any wine you’ll ever buy.

Midjourney
As you know, we believe that strict recitations of tasting notes is only part of the story of a wine. We’ve always tried to include metaphors to try to give our readers a better understanding of how wines impact us. These metaphors have included architecture, painting, music and poetry.

We’re trying something new to help create visual metaphors using Midjourney, a generative artificial intelligence program that is by far the best image gneratour out there. I’ve messed around with a bunch and this is by far the best. We look forward to hearing your feedback.

Please visit my new Tasting Notes Blog on all wines that I have sold through Fass Selections. It is constantly updated.

OFFICE HOURS 4-7 PM
I love drinking and selecting wines – but my passion for teaching people about wine is almost as big. I’m happy to announce a block of time each day where people can call me just to chat about wine in general. These blocks are NOT intended to sell wine (I do that all day). This is to talk to me about wine pairings or great producers or how long to age wines or styles of wine making or the latest wine controversy. My goal is to help people learn more about wine and enjoy it more. Call me at 917-912-4355 from 4-7EST Monday – Friday.

A Word about Fass Selections and Social Media

I am big into certain social media and I want people to take pictures of the wines they have received or will receive and tag me in them and share their thoughts. I a am on Instagram. Please tag me there. I also am on Delectable which I love a lot. It is Iphone/Ipad only, but it’s like Instagram meets Facebook for wine. Tag me there and find me there as well. I want to know if you liked the wine, were not moved by the wine, hated the wine or the wine gave you a religious experience. I want to know it all. Feedback is key and I will answer all feedback e-mails as quickly as I can.
