Well … That Was Fast … Rebourgeon Is Now Allocated
When we first sold Rebourgeon, we said that the wines would be allocated some day. Well – that day is today.

And yes, we know that 2022 is a full vintage but demand has exceeed even that.

Our allocations of all wines, especially the top ones, are based on total orders. So that’s how we are allocating to you.

The good news is that these wines are terrific across the board, which is obviously why they are allocated in the first place. A Volnay “Les Brouillards,” which you may not be as familiar with, is giong to be as good as a Clos de Chenes from a lesser producer.

And it’s under $50 through our model. At least it is now as prices will rise.

2022 at Rebourgeon
22 is the 6th vintage we have worked with. He took a massive leap in 2019 and 2020 was excellent but a bit behind 2019. 2021 was so limited but utterly profound and classic and while different than 2019 in the same league.

But now we enter 2022 and Willam has made the best wines of his young and burgeoning career. He blew me away and the tasting in his cellar was one of the best I have ever experienced in my long career. The wines are like a cross between 2021 and 2019.

They have
the accessibility of 2021
– around 80% red fruits (which I was not expecting) and 20% black fruits. 2019 for example was the reverse with 80% black/blue fruits and 20% red fruits.
– In 2022 the tannins are just ultra velvety and integrated so well with the fruit to give an affect like they are melting on your palate and I cannot tell you how appealing this ie.

My assessment not only at Rebourgeon but all the estates we work with is that the 22s will drink well young due to this melty tannin and fruit phenomenon. It’s a so called hidden structure. But don’t discount the acidity and freshness of 2022. They are bright wines but also supple. It’s such a great combo and a truly engaging vintage. Today I start with the two wines I have the least of. They are amongst the stars of the cellar in 22 but there are so many great wines you could throw a dart at any barrel in the cellar and you’d have a sensational wine.

VERY IMPORTANT The Style: Intoxicatingly Sensual and Original
The aromatics on these wines are absolutely among the most sensual and sexy of any wines I’ve had. They are elegant but man there is this sweet delicious fruit on them that you can’t believe. It tickles and envelops the nostrils. The secondary flavors live around the edge of that gorgeous fruit. Some wines have lilacs, some blackberry flower, some a hint of licorice or spice. But it’s on the back of that sensual fruit.

This is a contrast to a more traditional style of Burgundy where the fruit and aromatics are more bound together on a line and you have to sort of mentally say “oh there’s the fruit” and “oh, there’s the lilac.” Here the fruit just seduces you right off the bat.

The palate is in a similar vein. You get that spectacular fruit but balanced with perfect levels of acidity to keep it fresh and vibrant. The fruit is so so so so clean. It almost feels like essence of the fruit (blackberry, cherry, depending on the wine) that was passed through a distillery to concentrate, purify it and remove any impurities. The wines all have terrific intensity and palate thrust. Again – these are not shy wines and not what you might think of as the classic Burgundy of 20 years ago. But they are a faithful and beautiful representation of Burgundian Pinot Noir.

You know that you will want to pop one of these in 10 years when Whitehead is famous and you can say that he made this at the age of 22.

The Wine
When I tasted this, I instantly reserved 120 bottles of the 2022 Domaine Rebourgeon Pommard Les Trois Terroirs for $46.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. For the trois terroirs 22 the vines are from “Le Poisot,” “La Rue Aux Port” and “La Vache” and the average age of the vines is 32 years old.

The wine is stunning and just a small reminder, that there is no one in the entire United States who sells better high quality Burgundy for inexpensive prices than Fass Selections. It is actually jarring how inexpensive and how good our Burgundies are compared to the 3 tier system.

Below is small a list of 2022 Pommards that are much lesser quality and much more expensive. Todays wine is $41.99. Nothing highlights the inefficiencies of the 3 tier system than this glaring example.
       1 .2021 Louis Jadot Pommard ($66)
       2.2021 Joseph Drouhin Pommard ($90)
       3 .2020 Louis Latour Pommard ($93)

On the nose, this is so stoney like great Pommard should be. A bit reticent but raspberry and licorice sneak through. Really stoney nose and lovely deep cherry liquor / compote but is belied by a sense of freshness. Amazing airiness. So clean and such insane purity. This is slowly unfurling. Spice. Smoke. So detailed. This kid is such a talent. Wow. With air the nose has a lovey soil aroma now. Such a deep stoniness and also strawberry compote and some black cherry compote. So complex. Nose getting more expansive with air. Terrific early/mid season red cherries, and such freshness and just insane energy.

What a palateSo juicy and refined. Sick. So pure. Red and darker red fruits galore and stones. A tiny berry fruit intensity like nothing else. Wow the palate is just gorgeous. Amazing freshness and big red and sour cherries with a treacly texture. Super elegant and lithe. Wow the fruit on this is just incredible. Love the tanginess of the palate and the intense lift and high acid allied with bouncy sweet fruit. Wow the is s little engine. Awesome velvety but also sweet and stoney tannins. Long and pure. So detailed. Seurat wine here. Delicious. As it airs the structure becomes more apparent with bigger tannins but it is all there. Brilliant. Terrific inner mouth fruit and energy. Just overflowing with fruits. But finished with cleansing minerals and just the right amount of opulence. This is fantastic. Really dense, yet light and mineral but also contemplative and that core of bright red fruits. A wine of contrasts.

“A blend from Rue au Porc, La Vache, Le Bas des Saussilles. A dense clean purple. This also has a little bit of toast on the nose. The palate though majors on this core of concentrated deep red fruit, raspberry and fresh strawberry, with very good length behind. The blend has made a fine Pommard. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: February 2020.”

OFFICE HOURS 4-7 PM
I love drinking and selecting wines – but my passion for teaching people about wine is almost as big. I’m happy to announce a block of time each day where people can call me just to chat about wine in general. These blocks are NOT intended to sell wine (I do that all day). This is to talk to me about wine pairings or great producers or how long to age wines or styles of wine making or the latest wine controversy. My goal is to help people learn more about wine and enjoy it more. Call me at 917-912-4355 from 4-7EST Monday – Friday.

A Word about Fass Selections and Social Media

I am big into certain social media and I want people to take pictures of the wines they have received or will receive and tag me in them and share their thoughts. I a am on Instagram. Please tag me there. I also am on Delectable which I love a lot. It is Iphone/Ipad only, but it’s like Instagram meets Facebook for wine. Tag me there and find me there as well. I want to know if you liked the wine, were not moved by the wine, hated the wine or the wine gave you a religious experience. I want to know it all. Feedback is key and I will answer all feedback e-mails as quickly as I can.
